Application of Pyrite granules in Resin Bonded Grinding Wheels:
Application Method
Pyrite (FeS₂) is added to the resin grinding wheel system as an active filler in the form of fine powder or fine particles, mixed with alumina/silicon carbide abrasives and phenolic resin, then hot-pressed and formed.
Dosage: 5%–15% of the formula weight
Common compounding additives: cryolite, potassium sulfate, quicklime, etc., to improve performance and reduce corrosion
Core Functions
High-temperature extreme-pressure lubrication
Active sulfur is released under high grinding temperature, forming an iron sulfide lubricating film on the metal surface to reduce friction, prevent wheel adhesion and workpiece burning, suitable for dry grinding of stainless steel and alloy steel.
Heat resistance and resin protection
Oxidizes and absorbs oxygen at 400–475℃ to inhibit thermal aging of the resin;
Decomposes endothermically at 650℃ to lower the wheel temperature and avoid softening failure of the resin.
Improvement of grinding wheel strength
Fills pores, increases compactness and structural strength, reduces grain loss and edge chipping, and enhances durability.
Chemical grinding assistance
Active sulfur reacts with the metal surface to soften the cutting layer, making it easier for abrasives to cut in and improving heavy-duty cutting and grinding efficiency.
Application Scenarios
Resin cutting discs, heavy-duty grinding discs, rail/steel billet grinding, and dry grinding of stainless steel and alloy steel.
